Interface 2025 Showroom

Winner of IIDA's "Best in Show" Showroom Award at Chicago Design Week 2025!

who is

Interface is an internationally renowned flooring solutions company - home of the brands Interface, FLOR, and nora. For their 2025 Neocon showroom, they hired us to highlight their new collections through the timeless story of post-war fashion tailoring and space-race inspired carpet tiles. I personally led the design of the space, working in SketchUp, Vray, and AutoCAD, as well as managed client communications, vendor procurement, and timely production from our internal team.

Dressed Lines

The Interface Dressed Lines™ carpet tile collection is a nod to post-war minimalism. Minus the history lesson. It brings a new take on classic modernist design with a neutral palette that proves less is more.

The times may have changed, but the optimism is still alive and kicking.

Stellar Horizons

This is a collection that blends cosmic inspiration and earthly innovation. One that conveys our artistic vision without being too literal. That’s truly out-of-this-world.

With Stellar Horizons, the possibilities are infinite.

Entry

As you first step into the space, you are immediately greeted with a

mid-century modern minimalism reminiscent of the post-war era. The custom TV shroud and matching column wraps compliment the Interface logo covered in t-pins to immerse you in the tailor shop themes and the Dressed Lines Collection.

The Columns

There are 9 concrete columns throughout the space that were not being used to their full potential prior to their makeover. These custom wooden wrappings not only create a more inviting and intentional space, but also serve as a base for graphics and information about the collections that visitors stand on throughout the space.

Tailor Wall Experience

Though these floors are stunning simply to look at, Interface wanted to highlight the months of ideation and inspiration that went into the development of these flooring solutions.

This tailor-inspired wall serves as an interactive and tangible way for guests to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the new collections. It is based on the design team's actual workspaces in La Grange, Georgia that our team observed during our research trip.

Statement Vignette

The Statement Vignette has a dual purpose in this space. It firstly serves as a visual representation of the potential of these products in a residential space. Secondly though, it serves as a touchdown point for guests during Chicago Design Week and for salespeople for the rest of the year while it functions as an active showroom.

Sustainability

Interface doesn't just say that they are committed to sustainability, they've been proving it for over 20 years.

In addition to their new carpet collections, they have just launched the prototype for the world's first carbon-negative rubber flooring. This is possible due to years of sustainable practice and innovation, which we were tasked to highlight through this informative display.

Below is our custom infographic outlining Interface's current product life cycle.

Stellar Horizons Lounge

In the back of the showroom, we start to stray away from the tailored look, and lean into the space-race inspiration that brought Stellar Horizons to life. Similar to the vignette up front, this space doubles as both a touchdown point for guests during the event, and a work space for employees post-Neocon.

Working Offices

These offices are essential for the life of the showroom and its employees post-Chicago Design Week. In addition to their functionality, they serve as an aesthetic landscape of monochromatic color in which to highlight higher end products from the Stellar Horizons family that fall under Interface's FLOR brand.

Exterior Activation

Interface's showroom is located on the 3rd floor of a commercial building across from the Mart in downtown Chicago, making it hard to locate if you are not already familiar with the city or the brand.

In order to combat this, we created an eye-capturing outdoor wayfinding interaction to lead guests to the showroom. These custom 6' x10' scissors stand at the street corner across from the Mart and "cut" along a line of yellow vinyl "stitches" with information about their events throughout the week.

Introducing: nora Playland

nora is a collection of rubber flooring solutions under the Interface brand. It is a relatively new acquisition for Interface, and they had yet to find a way to pay homage to the products capabilities and versatility. Introducing: nora playland - a stand-alone showroom experience that demonstrates the innovation and potential nora products have in a commercial setting.
